Design a Celestial-Inspired Bedroom this Cancer Season

Lean into the season, filled with the year’s longest days and warm, restful nights, with a celestial-inspired bedroom. A few essential layers, and your space will go from tired and drab to flirty, fantasy-worthy, and fab.

Jul 06, 2020

Oh, my sun and stars! Cancer season is upon us, and she’s here to reinvigorate your sensitive, domestic side. Represented by the crab—a water-loving critter who carries their home on their back—Cancers know a thing or two about being both sensual and a homemaker. And the bedroom is their territory to thrive.

The lighting

Turn the overhead lights down low and opt for a couple of raw bulbs flanking your headboard, instead. The Color Cord Company’s Plug-In Solo Sconces require no electrical work to install, and add a sophisticated, industrial edge to any space. (We love the brushed brass finish for a bit of shine.) For extra ambience, fill a couple of bell jars with battery-operated fairy lights that look almost like fireflies twinkling behind glass.

The sheets

Our starry silk pillowcase and eyemask bundle sets the scene for evenings between the sheets that are pure magic. Delicate on the skin and a moody indigo, the breathable fabric will keep you and your partner’s bodies naturally cool—even when things heat up. (Let’s be real: lazy summer days inevitably lead to crazy hot nights.) Pair with our deep navy Luxe Sheet Bundle to complete the look.

The scent

A little extra mood lighting, plus some summer-night smells? Our Scented Candles have your back. Try the Nightcap candle for an of-the-season aroma in a dusky blue that’ll play well with your bedding and give a light, citrusy perfume.

A bouquet of night-blooming flowers, like wisteria, will also add a romantic, heady fragrance that captures the mysticism of the night air and gives your room that extra living layer.

The sounds

If you’re more into starry soundtracks au naturel, crack your window to let in the soft sounds of frogs chirping and birds warbling in the dark. Or, dive into the emotional depths that come with Cancer season with a curated playlist. (Spotify’s own Cancer curation includes mercurial new releases; or, try this Zodiac: Cancer playlist for a more delicate, ethereal soundtrack to your night.)

The shine

Create an inexpensive-but-glamorous gallery wall with a collection of starburst mirrors. Salvage your own and update worn frames with a bit of gold spray paint, or shop for sets that include a few shapes and sizes. (Etsy and Chairish have some great vintage options.)

The accessories

Most importantly, channel your inner crab and embrace your nostalgic side. Decorate a mantel with a string of old photos, frame an old letter and prop it up on your nightstand, or simply incorporate a small retro item like our Charlie Bell Echo alarm clock. This season is all about getting down to good, old, analog basics, appreciating natural beauty, and hitting the snooze button one too many times.
